1968 Kawasaki A1SS Samurai This is a very original bike. I believe the seat cover must have been redone at some point, but it was a good job. Other than that the bike is very original and functional. It had been sitting for about 8 years when I purchased it. I went through the entire bike to make it a good rider again. I have put a little over 200 test miles on the bike since then and got it sorted out. I purchased it to fix up for local AMCA chapter tiddler ride, where it performed great. Work done: Remove motor, scrubbed it cleanReplace all oil seals on the motor, including the crankshaft seals. (Inside of this motor was in excellent condition, 110PSI per cylinder)Replace head gasketsRemove/Inspect oil pump (auto-lube pump like motor was in great condition)Remove/clean oil tankReplace all oil linesRemove/clean fuel tankReplace petcock (will provide the original with a small box of spare parts and Clymer manual)Remove/clean/inspect carburetors (assembled with rebuild kits, carburetors were also in good shape)Install NOS throttle cable assembly. (all three cables and junction box new old stock)Replace original voltage regulator with new solid state regulator. (Will provide original. No modification to wiring harness)New battery (updated fuse to modern blade type, have original fuse wiring in spares)Wheel bearing replacement with sealed bearings. (originals in spares)Clean/lube brakesNew front and rear sprocketNew chainNew tires/tubesRemove triple clamps, clean steering head bearings/races. Assemble with fresh greaseInspect/clean forks and assemble with new seals and oil Remove clean/grease swingarm pivotNew air filterAdd fuel line quick connect fittings ( including the cross over line). Quickly remove tank without draining nowAdd fuel filters behind the engine covers Ride/tune/repeat until I had it running as good as it can get. I did not do a full motor rebuild. Cylinders measured ok and compression was ok. I am running it a little rich and it has not let me down. Known Issues: The neutral indicator needs work. The bulb is good but the tang that should make the ground connection needs adjustment or replacement. I cut the exhaust tips off as I could not get the baffles out. Previously someone else had tired to remove them. They were very stuck. I have the portion I cut off with the baffles still stuck in them. It is possible they could be welded back on. The chrome on the pipes is very patina so they could be fixed and restored. I put some generic baffles in and they dont fit that great but it did quiet it down a bit compared to no baffle at all. The choke cable is damaged. Specifically the top cable that goes to the lever on the bars. I could not find a NOS replacement but it could be repaired. Starts easy enough without it. MAybe 3-4 kicks in the cold. If its warm its is not an issue. The front fender and its brace are kinda bent up. I bent them back a little bit but it could be better. I could not find another fender or brace. A few little things to keep the next owner busy.
