Asprey Sterling Silver Cigar Lighter Click image to enlarge Description This beautiful, unusual table cigar lighter is made from sterling silver by the eminent silversmith, Asprey & Co. It is in the form of a warming/bed pan with a wick holder to the centre that unscrews to allow access to a well for holding fuel inside. It has an ebony handle and comes complete with what appears to be its original wick. The base is hallmarked for Birmingham 1933 with the registered mark of Asprey & Co. Ltd. alongside and stamp underneath. This piece is in good, usable condition but, after 91 years, there are a few issues to bring to your attention. There is a very slight dink to the edge of the raised central circular plate and the top is slightly concave which I don’t believe was how it was made. There is also a dink to the outer edge above the the handle and a few pinhead dints around the edge. The base has one dink to the edge below the handle and another to the front– neither of which are very noticeable. The wick holder unscrews easily but the wick has become quite unravelled as you can see from the photos although this is fairly simple to replace. The handle is generally in good condition with the exception of a chip to the underside of the knop at the end – please see the photos.
