Illustrated endpapers. First Edition / First Printing / First Issue. This is the true first printing with all the required points. The boards have a matte finish. Subsequent printings had glazed finish boards. “FOR BEGINNING READERS’ is found in a circle at the front board and there is no mention of the Beginner Books Series on the rear board. There is no zip code to the address on the rear board. And, most importantly, there is a single signature binding. Second issue and later printings had three signatures. Condition: Minor rubbing wear to corners, rubbing and some pulling wear to spine tips, small closed tear to paper at spine joint. Paper color remains excellent. Whites, reds, blue remain bright. No marks, tears, etc. Pages bright and clean. Internals excellent. A very nice copy that is quite scarce in this excellent condition. With the correct first issue dust jacket, which has the correct first issue price of “200/200” and does not have “Printed in the U.S.A.” on the bottom back flap. The jacket is color is very good. Rubbing wear to corners, spine tips and shoulder, front panel near spine. All as shown. Completely unrestored. A nice example of the very scarce first issue jacket.
